We have followed Brian Sacawa’s blog “He Spoke Style”  for a while now and we are always in awe of his classic style and love for style and grooming. This is captured in his photographs. This week we really enjoyed reading his post about “Shave” where he describes it as ” Also like my morning coffee, I like taking my time and enjoying the process of shaving. It’s one of the few times that I force myself to slow down during the day.”

Why Dreadnought? Why not!?

[dred-nawt]

1. A person that fears nothing
2. One that is among the largest and most powerful of its kind

Dreadnought is made in Great Britain for the men of USA and Canada.

1. Where are you located?

Plymouth, England.

2. When did you start this business?

June, 2012.

3. What is Dreadnought and when did you realize that this is what you wanted to pursue?

Dreadnought is a men’s grooming company that mixes age old methods with contemporary engineering. We spotted that there was a market for a new youthful brand that could attract new traditional shavers that might be put off by the more traditionalist brands on the market.

 4. Describe a few steps you took to make this happen.

A massive amount of R and D went into creating products, packaging and story – Only once we were 100% happy with this did we decide to go ahead.

5. How would you deal with a customer who didn’t know what they wanted?

Impartial advice – shaving is a complex subject with many variables, get to know the customer and see what their needs may be.

6. What are some of your accomplishments as a business?

Winner of the About.com award for Best Razor (Spartan) and Best Shaving Cream – 2012 and 2013 respectively.

 7. What do you believe makes a quality product?

Quality ingredients and an eye for detail.

8. Where do you get your inspiration from?

The Founder of Dreadnought is an ex Royal Marine and thus grooming was an essential part of everyday life – we wanted a product that was not only Manly to honor this, but also suit the needs of real men.

9. What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?

Don’t give up after the first hurdle, or the 100th for that matter.

10. Where can readers find out more about you and your work?

How to: Trim your Mustache

579937e16c445e576f4fb85042f03823There are many mustache shapes, styles and sizes these days. This trimming tutorial will give you the basics to trim and shape the mustache you want.

You will need:

Firstly know what style mustache you want. Then once you have figured that out we can begin.

Dampen your mustache with water and comb through the hair with the fine-toothed comb. Look for long hairs that are sticking up or that are too long. Trim those hairs! Start at the middle of your mustache and work your way outwards. This helps maintain the length and bushiness of your mustache. After that move to trimming above the top lip. keep the middle of the mustache short, just above the pink of the top lip so you are able to eat and drink without it getting in the way or smelling.  Secondly, trim the top of the mustache for shape and definition. Some mustaches are uneven in this area below the nose and that’s okay, all you need to do is use a mustache razor. This is a quick and simple task.

Once you have trimmed those extra hairs away then move onto the next area, the bottom of the mustache. The bottom of the mustache is trimmed for a smooth even line otherwise your mustache will look uneven. This helps keep even parameters around the mustache. See diagram below:

Once the trimming is taken care of and the areas are under control you can use the mustache wax. Apply it to your index finger, middle finger and thumb and rub them together so the wax warms up a little between the fingers. Then slowly apply the wax on your mustache. When applying the wax to the mustache make sure you squeeze your mustache to really get the wax in the hairs. Towards the ends twist the hair with your fingers to get a curl at the end. This method will keep the wax rooted into the mustache. Do this a couple times until you feel satisfied with the style and curl.

Voila, you are done!

That simple!

Mühle Shaving Company is a company that is known for their high- quality products for wet shaving. So what’s behind this brand that makes it so fine in quality? Mühle says; “Our high quality standards are based on our product development, the selection of excellent materials and their traditional processing.” In 1945 Mühle made their first shaving brush in Stutzengrun, Germany.

Their products are so well crafted by specialists. Each specialist profits from their craftsmanship. Once the final product is assembled, each one is then scrutinized before it is passed on to the new owner.

The hair qualities are silvertip badger, silvertip fiber, best badger + fine badger, pure badger, black fiber and pure bristle. Each quality brush has its own individual advantages. You can read more on each one here: Mühle Shaving Brushes.  The shaving brushes were made in a wash-house. This is where the logo was born and placed onto the handles of the brushes. Mühle is also well known for all their quality materials used on all of their products. Materials such as Horn and wood, Chinese lacquer, Carbon, Synthetic, Metal and porcelain.
